Festivities will start in elevated style with a ticketed Black Dinner for 50 guests featuring famed Mexican chef and restaurateur Eduardo Palazuelos in collaboration with Houston’s own David Cordua on Thursday, October 28 from 6 – 10 pm. The alfresco evening will take place on waterfront City Place Plaza and feature a curated, four-course dinner with wine pairings, Catrina face painting, flower crowns and unveiling of a traditional altar to honor passed loved ones. The cost is $150 per person with tickets available via Eventbrite.
It’s a party on City Place Plaza, Friday, October 29 from 5 – 9 pm with Calacas & Cocktails. Come for margaritas (cash bar) and live music and stay for the candlelight procession to the traditional altar at 8 pm. While free to attend, an Eventbrite ticketed option for $35 per person includes VIP access to the specially decorated, poolside Canopy Salon at the adjacent Houston City Place Marriott, where guests will receive a welcome cocktail, floral crown and candle kit for the procession, plus enjoy Catrina face painting.
The Mercado takes over City Place Plaza on Saturday, October 30 from noon – 10 pm. Shop of a variety of curated Mexican folk-art vendors and artisans showcasing an assortment of upscale accessories, art, jewelry, clothing, handcrafted ornaments and more. Enjoy traditional music and DJs alongside face painters, photo opportunities and kids activities throughout the day, as well as a second candlelight procession to the traditional altar at 8 pm. The mercado is free to attend, but an Eventbrite ticketed option for $35 provides VIP access to the Canopy Salon at the adjacent Houston City Place Marriott from 6:30 – 9 pm, where guests will receive a welcome cocktail, floral crown and candle kit for the procession, as well as intricate Catrina face painting.
The 4-day celebration wraps up on Sunday, October 31 with a Family Movie Night screening of the Pixar classic, “CoCo” starting at 6 pm on The Plaza. Admission is free.
