On June 3, Houston-based Island Grill unveiled its much-anticipated new restaurant at CityPlace, a best-in-class mixed-use district anchoring north Houston’s Springwoods Village. Focusing on healthy Mediterranean-American fare, Island Grill occupies a prime, 3,584-square-foot street-front space with an outdoor patio in CityPlace 2 at 1701 Lake Plaza Drive.
The fifth location for the family-owned and operated fast casual concept, CityPlace joins Tanglewood, Bellaire, Memorial and Rice Village as the brand’s first site outside of the Beltway and serving the north side. It also provide diners a one-of-a-kind setting, fronting CityPlace’s programmed central plaza and steps from the 60-acre development’s picturesque, waterfront park.

Acclaimed Houston design firm, MALI, designed the interior layout of the light-filled CityPlace site with the goal of setting a benchmark for what existing Island Grill locations will become. The new design approach introduces a fresh, modern aesthetic with attention to textural details that add warmth and invite customers to linger. Calacatta-patterned porcelain flooring with a wood inlay brings the restaurant’s Mediterranean aesthetic to life. Textural light fixtures, cobalt blue accents, olive leaf murals and water jet bar tiles interject a touch of sophistication.
In contrast to the other locations, Island Grill CityPlace showcases a chic bar with a curated selection of craft cocktails, beer and wine. It is also the first to feature an Italian brick, wood-fired pizza oven.
Since launching in 2000, Island Grill has earned both popular and critical acclaim for its relaxed atmosphere, personable service, delicious dishes rooted in tradition, plus value-oriented catering offerings. The menu incorporates a mix of recipes passed down through generations, as well as homegrown favorites, including an award-winning hamburger. Offerings are crafted using only premium ingredients, showcasing fine meats and seafood in addition to a multitude of gluten-free and vegetarian options.
