When it first opened in The Galleria area’s Uptown Park more than 15 years ago, Uptown Sushi turned the tables on traditional Japanese fare in Houston, bringing sushi to the forefront of the local dining scene with cross cultural flavors and flair in spades. Fresh off a complete overhaul of the flagship location – still considered among the Bayou City’s best and buzziest – owners Peggy and Daniel Chang are preparing for a new chapter for the brand as they expand into north Houston’s CityPlace district with a new concept: Sushi Rebel.
Represented by Alan Chodrow and Shane Karstendiek of Chodrow Realty Advisors, the Changs have leased a 3,738-square-foot, ground floor retail space for Sushi Rebel at 1700 Lake Plaza Drive in the premier, urban mixed-use district, anchoring Springwoods Village and home to ExxonMobil, HP, ABS and Southwestern Energy. A joint venture of Patrinely Group, USAA Real Estate and CDC Houston, CityPlace was represented by Nick Hernandez and Crystal Allen of Transwestern, along with Dennis Tarro of Patrinely Group.
According to Robert Fields, President and CEO at Patrinely Group, “This announcement is indicative of the dynamic operators that are forging a one-of-a-kind ambience at CityPlace. The Changs are masters at merging high-quality cuisine with a high-energy environment, and Sushi Rebel will wow with its distinctive décor and an environment designed to appeal from lunch into late night.”
Sushi Rebel joins a roster of future CityPlace eateries including Island Grill and Common Bond, soon-to-open Star Cinema Grill, a 10-screen, dine-in movie theater debuting in September, plus 24 Hour Fitness, arriving in late 2019.
